Mountain Sun's 30th Annual Stout Month Celebration!!!


Mountain Sun Pubs and Breweries have been celebrating the ubiquitous style of beer called Stout for over 30 years with a month-long festival that we call Stout Month. It has become a highly anticipated event among local and regional beer connoisseurs. For the entire month of February, at least ten taps at all four Mountain Sun locations are devoted to house-brewed varieties of this mysterious dark ale.


Addiction Imperial Coffee Stout

Our Imperial Coffee Stout features a massive dose of some of the finest local coffee available from our friends at Salto Coffee in Nederland, CO. We infused this beer with over three pounds per barrel of cold extracted coffee, which complements malt flavors of chocolate, dark fruit and caramel.

9.3% ABV 

Malts: 2-Row, Munich, Aromatic, Chocolate Malt, Dark Crystal, Roasted Barley, Coffee Malt, Extra Dark Crystal, Black Malt

Hops: Crystal, Chinook

Adjunct: Nederland’s Salto Coffee (Cold Extracted)

Chocolate Dip Cream Stout

Our Chocolate Cream Stout is brewed using Milk and Dark Chocolates, which provide a noticeable chocolate flavor and aroma. A moderate addition of roasted malts balances the sweet chocolate flavors with a smooth, round bitterness preventing this stout from becoming overwhelmingly sweet.

5.9% ABV        

Malts: 2-Row, Munich, Roasted Barley, Cara Malt, Wheat Malt, Chocolate Malt

Hop: Fuggle, Golding    

Adjuncts: Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Lactose (Milk Sugar)


COCONUT!!! Cream Stout

This smooth and silky Cream Stout is medium-bodied with a dominant, but delicate, coconut flavor contributed by the addition of 15# per barrel of Organic Coconut. The addition of milk sugar (lactose) enhances the perception of coconut flavors which is balanced by flavors of caramel, bittersweet chocolate and light roast.

4.9% ABV

Dropkick American Stout

A true American Stout, Dropkick hits you head on with a strong dose of roasted malt, followed immediately by citrusy and resiny American hops. Dropkick Stout is not a total hop bomb, but it does feature an assertive hop profile paired with an aggressive roasted malt character.

6.1% ABV      

Malts: 2-Row, Munich, Aromatic, Cara Malt, Medium Crystal, Dark Crystal, Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley

Hops: Amarillo, CTZ


Girl Scout Mint and Chocolate Cream Stout

This Mint Chocolate Cream Stout features dark chocolate, milk chocolate and fresh mint, and is balanced by roasted flavors from dark malts. The mint and chocolate flavors are the perfect complement to the Cream Stout base beer. If you like Thin Mints or Grasshopper cookies, you’ll love this beer.

5.9% ABV      

Malts: 2-Row, Munich, Roasted Barley, Cara Malt, Wheat Malt, Chocolate Malt

Hops: Fuggle, Golding

Adjunct: Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Fresh Mint, Lactose (Milk Sugar)


Loompa Land Vegan Dark Chocolate and Ginger Stout

This creation comes directly from the land of the Oompa Loompa, Hornswaggler and Vermicious Knid. Our Vegan Dark Chocolate and Ginger Stout has flavors of spicy ginger and citrusy/floral American hops that combine with bittersweet dark chocolate and fruity caramel malts to create a uniquely flavorful Stout. Now you can live in happiness too, like the Oompa Loompa… doo-pa-dee doo! No Bovine Lactate Secretions (Milk Products) were used in the making of this beer. So ya, it’s VEGAN!

6.1% ABV

Megatron Imperial Hoppy Stout

This aggressive and bold version of an Imperial Hoppy Stout has dominant flavors of chocolate and roast balanced by huge citrus and pine flavors contributed by American hop varieties.

9.3% ABV        

Malts: 2-Row, Aromatic, Roasted Barley, Black Malt, Cara Malt, Extra Dark Crystal

Hops: Chinook, Crystal, Simcoe

Montserrat Foreign Export Stout

This traditional Foreign Export Stout is dry and roasty with flavors similar to a Dry Irish Stout, but with more body and increased alcohol content. Flavors reminiscent of chocolate, molasses and a touch of licorice dominate the flavor profile. Historically, foreign export stouts were brewed to be higher alcohol by volume compared to traditional stouts to make them more suitable for shipment from the British Isles to the West Indies.

7.1% ABV        

Malts: 2-Row, Flaked Barley, Roasted Barley, Chocolate Malt, Black Barley

Hop: Golding

Adjunct: Blackstrap Molasses


Mountain Sun Cream Stout

Our traditional Cream Stout is rich and creamy with notes of light chocolate, toffee and smooth caramel with a full mouthfeel and moderately sweet finish.

5.2% ABV        

Malts: 2-Row, Maris Otter, Munich, Light Crystal, Cara Malt, Dark Crystal, Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, Black Malt

Hop: Golding

Adjunct: Lactose (Milk Sugar)


NIHILIST Russian Imperial Stout

Brewed with a massive quantity of roasted malts, this beer is balanced by a hefty dose of orange blossom honey. Complex notes of coffee, chocolate and roast fill the palate, while an ample addition of bittering hops ensure a smooth ride all the way to the last drop.

9.5% ABV        

Malts: 2-Row, Aromatic, Dark Crystal, Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, Black Barley, Coffee Malt

Hops: Amarillo, Chinook

Adjunct: Orange Blossom Honey


Norwegian Wheat Stout

This strong Wheat Stout utilizes five types of wheat, which hits the palate with a rich, creamy mouthfeel that gives way to a bittersweet, chocolatey finish. For those that prefer a stronger, sweeter stout that drinks like a cream stout, but WITHOUT the use of milk sugar, the Norwegian Wheat Stout fits the bill.

8.3% ABV        

Malts: Dark Wheat, Munich, Medium Crystal, Crystal Wheat, Flaked Wheat, Midnight Wheat, Chocolate Wheat, Pale Chocolate Malt

Hop: Golding


Oatimus Prime Imperial Oatmeal Stout

Our Imperial Oatmeal Stout is dark and rich with smooth flavors of chocolate and dark fruit, and is balanced by warming notes of alcohol. A large addition of a malt known as Golden Naked Oats lends aromas of oatmeal cookie as well as contributing to the smooth texture and full mouthfeel.

11.5% ABV  

Malts: 2-Row, Munich, Roasted Barley, Golden Naked Oats, Dark Crystal, Chocolate Malt, Medium Crystal

Hop: Golding


O'Stengl's Dry Irish Stout

Our classic Dry Irish Stout utilizes a traditional malt bill including the addition of flaked barley which adds a subtle graininess to the malt profile. A light fruitiness contributed by the traditional ale yeast provides a delightful foundation for this traditional ale and interplays with the malt characters to create a far more complex drinking experience than the scant raw materials list would suggest. This brand was formerly called “Old School Stout” prior to receiving a Cease & Desist Order from a certain Delaware Craft Brewery.

4.4% ABV

Second Cup Coffee Cream Stout

This Cream Stout is infused with cold extracted coffee from Salto Coffee in Nederland, CO to impart a smooth, clean coffee flavor and aroma.

5.2% ABV        

Malts: 2-Row, Maris Otter, Munich, Light Crystal, Cara Malt, Dark Crystal, Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, Black Malt

Hop: Golding

Adjunct: Lactose (Milk Sugar), Nederland’s Salto Coffee (Cold Extracted)


Spice Rack Chai Cream Stout

This low alcohol Cream Stout is brewed using lactose (milk sugar) to give the beer a sweet finish and rich mouthfeel. After fermentation, the beer is infused with a robust house-made chai. The result is a smooth, slightly sweet stout that incorporates the unique flavors of chai.

4.4% ABV 

Malts: Maris Otter, Medium Crystal, Roasted Barley, Chocolate Malt, Cara Malt, Carafa III

Hop: Golding

Adjunct: Lactose (Milk Sugar)

Spices: Fresh Ginger, House Chai Spice Blend


Stoked Oak Stout

This is an original recipe from former Mountain Sun brewer Scott Overdorf who now owns Hobart Brewing in Tasmania. His recipe for a bold, old world style stout masterfully balances a variety of malt flavors and oak to create a stout with barrel-aged character, but without having undergone the months-long barrel-aging process. 

6.9% ABV 

Malts: 2-Row, Munich Malt, Honey Malt, Medium Crystal Malt, Dark Crystal Malt, Roasted Barley, Chocolate Malt, Beechwood Smoked Malt, Pale Wheat Malt

Hops: Golding

Adjuncts: Toasted American Oak Spirals


Stoutwave Tropical Hoppy Stout

Turn up the synthwave tracks and grab your neon shades… Soft tropical hops pop outta the dark, chocolatey malt backdrop of this super chill, glimmering lil ditty. Mega-balanced and bumping. 

5.6% ABV   

Malts: 2-Row, Munich, Light Crystal, Medium Crystal, Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, Carafa Special III

Hop: Ahlora, Mosaic, Simcoe

Strong Shot Rye Barrel-Aged Imperial Coffee Stout

Brewed to be bold. Earthy, spicy rye whiskey and charred oak flavors are infused into this Imperial Stout through months of barrel aging. Robust coffee flavors of dark roast, chocolate and earth come from the use of over four pounds per barrel of cold extracted coffee roasted by our friends at Salto Coffee in Nederland, CO.

9.1% ABV 

Malts: 2-Row, Munich, Aromatic, Chocolate Malt, Dark Crystal, Roasted Barley, Coffee Malt, Extra Dark Crystal, Black Malt

Hops: Crystal, Chinook

Adjunct: Nederland’s Salto Coffee (Cold Extracted)


Thunderhead Stout

This stout has strong flavors of bittersweet chocolate and dark-roasted coffee, as well as a full-bodied mouthfeel enhanced by a blend of rye and oats. Its malt-forward flavor profile remains balanced even with minimal hop flavor or aroma.

6.3% ABV   

Malts: Maris Otter, Munich, Rye, Cara Malt, Medium Crystal, Black Barley, Roasted Barley, Flaked Oats

Hops: Chinook, Crystal


Trickster Hoppy Stout

Hopheads need stout too!! We brewed this hoppy stout with loads of Simcoe hops for a distinct pine and citrus character that is atypical for a stout. If you close your eyes and inhale the pungent aroma, you’d swear you were smelling an I.P.A. but Trickster still has enough roasted character to be a stout.

5.9% ABV

Vine Street Vanilla Cream Stout

This traditional Cream Stout has notes of light chocolate, toffee and smooth caramel with a notable creamy texture. The dark malt character and sweet finish are complemented by flavors from Madagascar vanilla beans.

5.2% ABV

WARM Amburana-Aged Imperial Stout

This Amburana Wood-Aged Imperial Stout warms you from the inside out with flavors of cinnamon and baking spice that are all coming from the amazing Brazilian wood. Notes of smooth dark malts complement the spice character of the wood to create a truly unique drinking experience.

9.9% ABV

Wizard's Staff Imperial Stout

Gather round friends and fiends, there’s tales to tell. For long have we traveled these withered roads, and now is the time to recount our deeds. In your glass, you should have a bit ale, stolen from yonder keep. And in this mighty ale resides many mysteries deep. A hearty earthiness wrought with spice, smoke and oak, lend way to dark fruit and subtle chocolate notes. A bit of magic seems to be in the air this eve, so let us rest our minds and set our worries free. Mind you tread lightly friends and fiends, for the Wizard’s Staff can bring delight or destruction to thee.

11.6% ABV   

Malts: 2-Row, Munich, Rye Malt, Beech Smoked Malt, Roasted Barley, Chocolate Malt, Medium Crystal, Dark Crystal, Peat Smoked Malt

Hop: Golding

Yonder Mountain Stout

From high on a hilltop comes this robust Oatmeal Stout. It is brewed with a hefty dose of flaked oats which add a smooth texture and creamy mouthfeel, as well as a variety of specialty malts that contribute flavors of caramel, chocolate and light roasted coffee. At the end of the day, nothing pleases this lonely heart like an Oatmeal Stout firing on all eight cylinders.

6.8% ABV
